countdown to holiday break dress up days

Good evening Momentum families,

Biology STAAR will be on 12/5/25 this week, and we need every student locked in and fully prepared. These exams matter as students must pass all five EOCs to graduate, and Biology is one of the key requirements on that path.

Please review these must-know reminders with your student today:

What Every Student MUST Do to Be Successful on the Biology EOC

Be present.
Attendance is mandatory. Missing the test delays your graduation path.

Read every question carefully.
Biology questions are often layered and detailed. Students should pause and ask themselves:

“What is this question actually asking me to answer?”

Use the visuals.
Diagrams, graphs, tables, and models are there for a reason. Students should:

  • Look closely at labels, titles, and units.

  • Connect what they see in the visual to what the question is asking.

  • Use those clues to eliminate wrong answers.

Do not rush.
This is not a race. Students should:

  • Take their time.

  • Re-read tricky questions.

  • Double-check answers when possible.

Avoid “random” answer choices.
If an answer choice doesn’t match the information in the question or the diagram, it’s likely a distractor meant to throw them off. Students should choose the answer that best fits the data, diagram, or information given.

Answer every single question.
No blanks. A guess still has a chance; a blank has none.

Trust what you’ve learned.
Students have been working hard in their Biology classes. They should trust their knowledge, use their test-taking strategies, and give this exam their very best effort. They are capable of passing.

Why This Matters

Every year, some students fall short not because they don’t know the content, but because they rush, skip questions, or ignore the visuals and details that would have helped them choose the correct answer.

We don’t want any student losing points they could have earned.

  • Do not rush.

  • Read for understanding, do not skim.

  • Do not skip questions.

  • Do not ignore the diagrams, charts, and models.

We believe in our students. They can do this. With focus, effort, and confidence, they can pass this exam and move one step closer to graduation,  without having to retake Biology in the spring.

URGENT: What You MUST Know Before Wednesday’s Algebra 1 STAAR EOC

Good afternoon, Momentum families,

This week is STAAR EOC week, and we need every student locked in and fully prepared. These exams matter — students must pass all five EOCs to graduate, and Algebra is one of the key challenges to master.

Please review these must-know reminders with your student today:

What Every Student MUST Do to Pass the Algebra EOC

Be present. Attendance is mandatory. Missing the test delays your graduation path.

Use the DESMOS calculator embedded in the test.

The majority of the graphing questions can be solved using the DESMOS graphing calculator.

Remember to use linear regression to write your equations from tables or 2 points.

If it is an equation already, type it into DESMOS and let the calculator help you find your answers.

Remember m= slope and b= y-intercept

Solving equations in DESMOS is where the lines CROSS.

Matching equations – change all variables to x and type them into DESMOS.

Your response CAN earn points even if it’s not perfect.

Students who at least respond often pass.

Most students who fail the exam fail because they didn’t answer the new item type questions like graphing, equation writing, and multi-selection.

Domain and Range vocabulary review

Domain are the x-values. Left to right on a graph

Range are the y-values. Bottom to top on a graph

Read carefully, take your time, and think.

This is not a race. Use every minute.

Check your answers before you submit.

Why This Matters

Every year, students who should have passed the test fall short because they didn’t write anything in the response box.

Do not give up free points.

Do not skip the graphing questions.

Do not walk away from a passing score.

We believe in you. You can do this. Bring your best effort and finish strong — so you don’t have to sit for this exam again in the spring.

Momentum, let’s get it done.

From December 2–8, 2025, there will be no mid-day or night classes. All students are required to report to campus by 7:10 AM each day for STAAR testing. Regular mid-day and night class schedules will resume on December 9, 2025.

We ask for your support in ensuring your student gets plenty of rest each night and arrives to school on time. This is a significant week for many of our students, as several will become eligible for graduation once they successfully pass their STAAR tests and complete their required courses.

Testing Details: All students must report by 7:10am
12/2- English 1
12/3- Algebra 1
12/4-English 2
12/5-Biology
12/8-US History

no md/pm for december EOC testing

Good afternoon, Momentum families,

Tomorrow kicks off our English STAAR EOC week, and I need every student locked in and fully prepared. These exams matter — students must pass all five EOCs to graduate, and English is one of the most important hurdles to clear.

Please review these must-know reminders with your student today:

What Every Student MUST Do to Pass the English EOC

1. Be present. Attendance is mandatory. Missing the test delays your graduation path.

2. Do NOT skip the writing portion.

3. Skipping = an automatic zero.

4. Writing IDK, random words, or gibberish = an automatic zero.

5. Your response CAN earn points even if it’s not perfect.

6. Students who at least respond often pass.

Most students who fail the exam fail because they didn’t answer the writing question at all.

7. Follow RACES:

- Restate the question

- Answer the question

- Cite evidence

- Explain your evidence

- Summarize your response

If nothing else: RESTATE + ANSWER the question.
That alone earns points and can be the difference between passing and not passing.

8. Use your dictionary.
It is your greatest tool — do not leave it unopened.

9. Read carefully, take your time, and think.
This is not a race. Use every minute.

Why This Matters

- Every year, students who should have passed the test fall short because they didn’t write anything in the response box.
- Do not give up free points.
- Do not skip the writing.
- Do not walk away from a passing score.

We believe in you. You can do this. Bring your best effort and finish strong — so you don’t have to sit for this exam again in the spring.

Momentum, let’s get it done.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Momentum! 🎄✨

A HUGE thank-you to all the teachers, staff, and students who participated in our Mini Christmas Tree Community Event. What started as a small idea turned into a full winter wonderland forest thanks to your creativity and holiday spirit!

Last week, Ms. Odums from Da’Church picked up the trees, and they’re headed exactly where they’re needed most:

🎁 Half will be delivered to a local Nursing Home

🎁 Half will brighten the rooms of children with cancer at the Ronald McDonald House

These trees are going to bring joy, comfort, and smiles to so many sweet people this season. ❤️

Special thanks for your “tree adoption” to:
Ms. Vega
Ms. Santiago
Mr. Zechiel
Ms. Manning
Ms. Yankey
Ms. Pagan

And to ALL our incredible MHS students who participated — we appreciate you more than you know!

Momentum High School is grateful to be a campus that serves, gives, and shows up for our community.

Students,

If you’re thinking about college, scholarships, or military programs, taking the ACT can open doors. It’s optional, but it can strengthen your post–high school opportunities.

Who can sign up?
Primarily 11th and 12th graders — but the form is open to all students. If you’re not in 11th/12th, you can still submit; we’ll filter responses on our end.

Deadline: Friday, October 3 (form closes then)

Sign up here: https://forms.gle/6f8moChNUQM8Pm6P8

Quick tips:

Use your school email.
Double-check your name and ID.
Make sure your contact info is correct so we can follow up.

If you have questions about whether the ACT fits your plans, reply to this email or see Ms. Ray, your counselor!
